Andrew Kolawole

Belle de jour by Ayodele Ogundipe

He was a rising star

rn

A promising young star to become

rn

One reckoned with the merit of distinction

rn

In the league of all brightness

rn

But a Nova did he suspend to become

rn

For he was regaled in the opulence of all charisma

rn

And his star was a brilliant one to remember - *Irawoola

rn

Yet this wealth much declared

rn

Was barely seen nor scarce

rn

It was neither stolen nor misplaced

rn

But rather secured safely

rn

In the safe of his insanity

rn

Trapped within the fortress of his mind

rn

As on a trip he went with the fairies yesterday

rn

Yearning reluctantly to return today.

rn

Without the fate of homecoming soon.

rn

Where do we find the sun that sets in the east?

rn

Faraway Andrew, faraway

rn

In the circumstance of his lot

rn

He wanders adrift

rn

Where are you Andrew

rn

Oh Andrew where are you

rn

Far in life’s  journey of unending destinations.

rn

A wandering vessel of honour

rn

That shines in pity – Andrew Kolawole

rn

Indeed, Andrew Kolawole;

rn

Omo ekun, awujoola, ipadeolo*

rn

Omo okiki ola, ipoola*

rn

Omo rere bi iyan,

rn

O ri woro woro bi iresi

rn

Omo olola tin fola folola*

rn

Omo eni tin je paripari ola*

rn

Omo eni a nle bo tin le ara iwaju

rn

Omo eni tin feni to n fopolo lopolo

rn

Omo aseyi owu

rn

Sebi ojo to ro sewuro loro si ireke

rn

Ki eledua mafi wa dara ti o dara – ha!

rn

Where’s the north star

rn

To guide us by noonday

rn

Where’s Sirius to lustre his shine to Polaris

rn

Or  Vega that boasted his gleam to Orion

rn

Faraway, Andrew, Far away

rn

Where is he?

rn

The forsaken proverb of the potter’s clay

rn

For blessed was the testimony

rn

Of that name afore misfortuned

rn

Oh! Andrew Chibuzor Onaolamipo Kolawole

rn

The lost child of destiny.

rn

rn

*Oriki – eulogies
*Awujoola – congregation of wealth
*ipadeola – meeting of wealth
*Ipoola – stead of wealth
*Irawoola – star of wealth
